These qualifications will provide an understanding of the knowledge and skills needed when working directly with children or young people in primary, secondary or special schools. Although this is a one-year course, learners will be in the workplace for two days a week.
You will learn about children and young people's development, safeguarding their welfare, and communication.
You will be assessed by your tutor and assessor using a range of methods including direct observation in the workplace, a portfolio of evidence, written assignments and tasks.
This will lead to employment as a senior teaching assistant, senior learning support assistant or senior special educational needs assistant. Students could also apply for the Higher Level Teaching Assistants course.
4 Cs or 4s including English and Maths.
Students will carry out a 12 hour placement as part of their course. If you are not already employed or volunteering in a school, the team will support you in seeking a placement opportunity at the College.
