Sewing for Beginners

Ever get frustrated when you buy shop bought clothes that they don’t fit properly? Want to learn how to alter your existing clothes to fit your body shape? Or even how to make your own clothes from your personal measurements?

Overview

This is a short beginners course aimed to give you the sewing techniques and confidence to sew and alter your own clothes or just add your own individually to a garment.

Gemma Vincent is a seamstress with 14 years experience in making and altering Costumes for the West End theatre, as well as TV and Film. She also has her own Clothing brand, Sewin Love, combining her passion for tattoos and the rockabilly style.

On this course you will learn how to:

  • Take professional measurements;
  • Flat draft a basic pattern using your measurements;
  • Cut out and fit a garment;
  • Basic sewing machine and overlocker skills;
  • Finishing techniques.

Guidance on all techniques and machinery will be given throughout.

Additional information & other costs

We provide a fully equipped studio and supplies excluding your final garment fabric as everyone’s tastes/styles are different.

This 6-week course runs one evening a week from 6pm to 9pm.
