This highly practical course is an ideal starting point for those students with few formal qualifications. Covering the basics of handling, feeding and the setting up of accommodation for a wide range of species, this course will enable you to learn how to work safely, care for and maintain animal accommodation in our custom-built animal management unit.
You will learn animal handling, land-based skills, how to work in a team, and personal & social development, and functional skills/GCSE in English and Maths.
Practical assessments and written assignments are set continually throughout the course.
Students can progress on to Level 2 courses in Animal and Land-Based studies, or into an Apprenticeship.
You should have at least 2 GCSEs at grade D-E (3 or 2) or equivalent.
Students have the opportunity to complete two weeks work experience, on college grounds, per academic year. They may also have the opportunity to undertake three day trips and one study tour per year.
