Sport and Leisure Student Completes Diploma Early to Pursue Dream Career in the Navy

Level 2 Sport and Leisure student, George Clarke-Kray, has achieved his goal of completing his BTEC Diploma early to pursue a career in the Royal Navy.

George was one of the first students to enrol on the Level 2 Sport and Leisure course at our College in 2019.

From the outset, George’s Lecturers were impressed with his drive, determination and commitment to his studies, and supportive of his plans to join the Royal Navy.

Lecturer in Sport and Leisure, Sam Perkins, commented: “George has always possessed a desire to join the British Royal Navy and has worked for many years for an opportunity to do so. Just before Christmas he was delighted to announce he would be joining the Royal Navy in April 2020 following his 18th Birthday. He was adamant from that day he would complete his full BTEC Diploma studies before he set off for greater things.”

In April 2020 it was announced that George successfully completed his qualification three months early, achieving an overall grade of ‘Distinction’.

Having accomplished a top grade on his course, George departed from HMS Raleigh in Torpoint, Cornwall on Monday 27 April with the Royal Navy.

Sam added: “George will be sorely missed, but the entire Sport and Leisure cohort and everyone at Broadstairs College are very proud of him and wish him well for the future.”
