About You

You’ll be asked the below questions on our application form and we’ve given you some guidance on the sort of things you might want to tell us.

Write in full sentences
Write 30-50 words, or a couple of sentences for each question
There is no right or wrong answer

What interests you in this area/pathway?

The first question you're asked after you've completed your personal details is 'What interests you about this pathway?'. This section helps us understand why you want to study this pathway. So think about:

Is it a subject you enjoyed at school?
Do you want a career in this industry? If so, what career and why do you like the idea of it?
Do you know somebody who is working in a related job and you want to follow in their footsteps?

If you answered yes to any of these questions then use this as a starting point.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

This section helps us know what you enjoy doing and what additional skills you might have. Think about:

Any hobbies you might have.
Do you enjoy reading, listening to music, baking?
Do you belong to any clubs?
Are you very sociable or great at using social media?

If so, please put them down. It doesn't have to be much, it just gives us an idea of what other interests and skills you might have.

Would you be interested in an apprenticeship or going on to university?

If you would be open to doing an Apprenticeship or going on to study at university one day, please write this here. If not, then just write no.

Please tell us about any skills and work experience you see as relevant

If you have a part-time job then this would count as work experience so put down the details like what the job was, when you did it and what you liked and disliked about it. If you have never worked that’s fine, perhaps you have worked on a project at school which you think might be relevant to the course? Or perhaps you took part in work experience whilst at school? If not, then write down some of your personal attributes. Are you a confident person? Are you organised? These all count as skills and we want to know about them.

What do/did you enjoy most about school/college?

Let’s face it, not everyone enjoys school. However, the chances are there was something that you did enjoy (and no, we don’t mean lunchtime!) We need to know what subject you liked best. Maybe you undertook a project that you really enjoyed or you could tell us which teacher inspired you and why?

What do/did you find the most challenging at school/college?

Nobody is good at everything but we want to help you get the most out of college. Perhaps you struggled with English or maths? Maybe you found making friends hard, or maybe you struggled to concentrate? It’s best to be honest about what you found difficult so that we can help you with the transition to college. If you have additional learning needs then let us know so that we can provide the support you need.

How do you like to learn?

Last but not least, we want to know how you like to be taught and what helps you learn best. Do you prefer to learn in the classroom or are you a more practical learner? Do you prefer to listen or learn by trying things out for yourself? Do you like to make notes and write lists? Knowing these things will help us make sure you get the most out of your course.
