The six Professional Catering students were asked to provide front of house silver service for a gourmet dinner at the Château des Lys, taking on the task of serving a six-course feast for the party of 24.
Chef lecturer Rob Allsworth said: “This all came about from our connection with local networking group Slope Off Friday with Jules Serkin, who decided to host a special Slope Off France event. They have worked with the Catering department before on a number of events and have always been impressed with our students.”
The Château owners, Tim and Margreeth, were impressed with the skills showcased by the Level 2 & 3 Hospitality students, taking to Twitter to praise them for their work. The experience also gave students a great opportunity to further develop their skills, learning how to adapt and work in unfamiliar surroundings to deliver superb service.
Student Adam Davis said: “It was such an amazing experience for us to get to go to Château des Lys and improve our skills in this way. We’re always developing at the College and in our Broadstairs hotel, The Yarrow, but it was really special to play our part in this celebration of food and service. It’s very inspirational to be working alongside such passionate professionals.”
The students have now returned to Broadstairs College, where Lauren and Adam have thrown themselves into their WorldSkills training. To experience their skills, why not visit The Yarrow hotel on a Wednesday, when they lead a student pop-up lunch service. To book, call 01843 460100.
