Ben Newick

Ben Newick gained his position at the British Embassy in Paris after completing his studies with us. Today Ben manages a large team of household staff within the Embassy and continues to provide valuable work experience to our students.

How did you get started?

I attended the general Catering Course at Thanet College, now Broadstairs College,  from 1978 to the end of 1980.

How did College help you to start your career?

I initially wanted to work in the Royal household, but was given an opportunity by the College to work in the British Embassy in Paris in early 1981.  Having joined as a junior member of staff, I was given the responsibility of becoming the butler in 1984, aged just 21.  I then started building my own team in 1985, recruiting from the College.  I have now employed over 20 students full-time, as well as providing an ongoing work experience scheme with the College, where we have welcomed over 30 students since 2001 when the scheme began.

I have maintained contact with the College and with their support over the years, we have made our Embassy in Paris a true success story.  I would like to thank them for all they have done for me and very much look forward to working with the Exclusive Butler Academy students in the future.
