Level 3 in Understanding Autism

Gain an understanding of autism and the principles of supporting individuals with autism.

What will I learn?

The course will focus on a person-centred approach and give you skills in how to influence positive communication and behaviour. The aim of the course is to teach you the skills to support individuals with autism to live healthy and fulfilled lives.

The course will enable you to learn flexibly in your own time.

The objectives of this qualification are to gain knowledge and understanding of autism, including:

  • How to adopt a positive approach to supporting individuals with autism
  • The current legislative framework relating to individuals with autism and how different theories have developed over time
  • How to support and manage transitions for individuals with autism
  • The range of therapeutic interventions and support available for individuals with autism and co-occurring conditions
  • How to support communication and social interaction for individuals with autism
  • How to develop an understanding of how individuals with autism may be vulnerable and the support worker’s role and responsibilities relating to safeguarding according to legislative requirements.

  • Unit 01 Autism in context 
  • Unit 02 Positive behavioural support for individuals with autism 
  • Unit 03 Understand support and management of transitions for individuals with autism 
  • Unit 04 Therapeutic interventions and support available for individuals with autism and co-occurring conditions 
  • Unit 05 Communication and social interaction with individuals with autism 
  • Unit 06 Safeguarding and resilience in autism

Entry requirements 

All learners must be aged 19+. There are no formal entry requirements, but learners will need a good standard of English in order to complete assignments. 

Fees and costs

You could get this course for free if you meet one of the following criteria:

  • Someone aged 19+ who does not already hold a Level 3 qualification
  • Someone who holds a level 3 qualification but earns under £18,525 per annum
