The course work element of the programme will boost your employability skills, and your career can take a number of roles and directions from our courses in Health and Social Care. Examples of careers include...Care Manager, Counsellor, Health Care Assistant, Nurse, Midwife, Paramedic, Occupational Therapist and Social Worker.
On Wednesdays, we have enrichment sessions at the college, meaning you can choose from and learn a variety of skills whether they enhance your lessons (such as extra First Aid), or not! Our student centre with activities such as table football, table tennis and Xbox gaming is also on the same floor as Health and Social care, and is next to the classrooms you will be learning in.
Our Industry Liaison team have great links with employers and local services around the area, meaning that as you progress through the course you will be able to get a work placement that meets your needs and aims going forward in your career. In your course, there is the opportunity to take part in the Health and Social Care showcase, where you pick a topic of your choice and prepare how best you want to present it to other people inside the college!
At this year’s Careers Fair, one of our Level 2 Health and Social Care students was offered an interview there and then, and got the job as a result. Grant, who studies the Level 2 in Health and Social Care said afterwards ‘I am so happy I got the job, I am very thankful to Ashford College for helping to put me on the path to where I want to be.’
Our Health and Social students this year have used every opportunity to get together as a whole pathway, regardless of what level course they are on. A key example was during our Jubilee celebrations, when every Health and Social Care student added their course experience to a card, which was then placed on a crown being designed for our Jubilee contest. In the end, they won for best pathway crown!
