Art and Design allows students to go down lots of different routes and specialist areas, including drawing, painting, printmaking, graphic design, mixed-media, textile design, 3D design, photography and digital design. After completing our Art and Design courses, you could go on to further study, or get a career in Design, Illustration, Animation, Architecture, Photography, 3D Design, Ceramics or other areas in this wide-spreading industry.
No matter what route you go down in the future, all our Art and Design facilities will allow you to really succeed in our courses. Our facilities include Mac computer suites for you to practice and improve your digital design skills, as well as art studios, ceramic kilns, a photographic studio, and a darkroom.
A few of the projects that Art and Design students have worked on over the past year have made a real difference to the businesses or local community. A key example was the community mural that was made for ‘FlipOut’ – a local trampoline park. Students were tasked with designing two images to be used as large-scale murals at the centre and were really pleased to have a hand in the whole process, from designing to painting the finished product themselves.
Level 3 Student Tom was awarded a ‘Try Angle’ award for his efforts to create positive change through Art, after creating a mural for a local community skatepark. Speaking about his work, Tom said “It is more important to me that my art has meaning…than for people to just like the look of what I make.” Read more about this in our news article here:
In the past academic year, our Art and Design students have had the chance to have their work featured pretty much all over Ashford! Excluding those seen above at ‘FlipOut’ and Tom’s effort, examples of this include our Affordable Art Show, and our end of year art show ‘Together’ which took place at County Square. Find out what they thought of it here.
