Updates: Colleges & Business Units | Commercial Outlets and Nurseries
Advice for: Students, Parents and Carers | College Applicants | Apprentices
On Monday 5th September 2022, we were proud to open the college doors to the 1st half of our new and returning students this year. Students were just as excited as we were to get into college life and start the next step of their future, with them eagerly queuing up outside in the morning.
At reception, students were greeted by our student services team who welcomed them into college and gave them their Ashford College lanyards. Our department teams then met their students and showed them where their lessons would be based throughout the year, before getting started on learning.
New Student Union President Tash was also on hand in the morning to guide new students around the college, and to answer any questions about joining the Student Union and what benefits it can bring. Find out more about Tash and what she hopes to do this year in our SU by reading our blog.
As well as lessons, we also held talks by our student services team to let them know about things they can access outside of their pathway which will benefit them throughout college.
Katie, our E-Hub Coordinator, gave talks how to access E-Hub facilities such as laptop loaning and e-books. You can find out more about these and the other services that our E-Hub provides students here.
Tom our Careers Officer spoke to students about employability and what advice and guidance can be offered throughout the year, such as details about the UCAS process. Find out more here.
Megan our Student Experience Officer spoke to students about Enrichment which every Wednesday allows students to learn new skills and enjoy activities outside of their pathway. She also highlighted changes that the college has done in the summer to benefit our students, such as comfier chairs, beanbags, and more events in the year. Find out more here.
Between these talks and lessons, students got to hang out in our atrium and student centre, enjoying the Xbox, Table Tennis and just hanging out in our relaxed student environment. For many this was a very different environment than their previous educational offering!
On Wednesday 7th September, the 2nd half of new and returning students came to college, and we had the whole process start all over again. Wednesday was slightly different however, as we welcomed our first ever set of T-Level students! T-Levels are a brand new industry linked qualification which allows students to learn in a subject they are passionate about alongside a 45-day work placement with a local employer. T-Levels started on Wednesday for our Business, Computing and Early Years pathways, with more to come in September 2023. Business student Cameron had chosen our Management and Administration T-Level as he liked the fact that it was equivalent to 3 A-Levels, whilst allowing him to study in something he was really interested in. Learn more about T-Levels here.
Over the first term, we will carry on ensuring that students settle in to college life, both academically and socially. As an example, this term we have work placements for students and our Freshers Fayre lined up, which will benefit them in very different ways.
