Sahil runs the London Marathon 2022!

Maths Lecturer Sahil can normally be found in college helping our students improve their Maths grades, and making sure that they achieve their Maths GCSE. This weekend however, he took part in the London Marathon, achieving some of his own personal goals, whilst also raising much needed funds for Parkinson's UK.

This was Sahil's 2nd Marathon, having run the Brighton Marathon previously in April of this year to help raise funds for Cancer Research, with £628 in total donated. He took part in the London Marathon as part of his involvement in Ashford Athletics Club, where he has been a member for the past few years, taking part in 5ks, 10ks, and Half Marathons.

When asked why he was taking part in this year's London Marathon, Sahil said "I am doing the Marathon for a variety of reasons. The first was for the challenge, as I have done 5ks, 10ks and half marathons before, and wanted to push myself after the Brighton Marathon back in April. As it's the biggest running event in the UK and one of the biggest sporting events in the world, it's really hard to get into, so when I got the opportunity to be put into the Ballot with the Ashford Athletics Club, I knew I had to go for it and luckily got in. The second reason was to raise money for good causes, as many charities missed out when the London Marathon was cancelled in April 2020. I ran for Parkinson's UK, which is a charity that I have helped in the past and have a close connection to, as I have seen their help and support first hand."

As the Marathon finished on Sunday, Sahil completed it in a time of 02:59:37 beating his time in the Brighton Marathon! Achieving a sub 3 hour marathon is a big benchmark and a tough thing to achieve. As of writing this, he has raised £746 for Parkinson's UK. After the race Sahil said, "I'm very proud of my time and the amount of money raised for Parkinson's UK."

Many congratulations to Sahil on his incredible achievement, and if you haven't donated already, you can donate now by clicking here to see Sahil's JustGiving page.
