Our First Term of T Levels!

T Levels have now launched at Ashford College - read below to see our progress on this exciting new journey in education and learning.

This term, we launched Ashford College’s first ever T Level courses on a variety of pathways. These exciting new qualifications allow students to learn with a mix of classroom-based activities and theoretical work, alongside 45-day work placements. This helps students gain the employability skills that are needed for their respective industry of choice and prepares them for work alongside local employers and businesses.

The T Levels that we are currently offering this academic year are…

Let’s take a look and see what T Level students have been learning this term, and how they have been settling into college life and this brand-new way of learning. Watch our video below, or scroll down for more details!

MANAGEMENT AND ADMINISTRATION (BUSINESS)

Business students this term have settled in well to college life and have learnt many skills this term that will help them to stand out and succeed in any business, as well as their future work placements. Student Cameron said he chose this Business T Level as it is equivalent to 3 A Levels, and we have seen how this focus on Business has really helped him and the rest of the students. Skills they have gained include marketing, selling, organisation, customer service, communication and problem solving, all of which were put into practice at a Macmillan Coffee Morning they ran in college! As well as raising £164 for a great cause, this event allowed students to see just how much goes into an event like this, and how a business must be prepared. They also got the chance to meet new students, with lots of students from other pathways buying cakes and raffle tickets for 50p. Next term, Business students will continue to build on these skills and learn more about employability thanks to our lecturer Jane and Industry Liaison Rebecca.

DIGITAL PRODUCTION, DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT (COMPUTING)

Computing T Level students have been getting to grips with new technology in our computer suites. They have also been learning from a wide range of topics over this first term that are relevant to their chosen industry. They have also been given an introduction on the range of careers they could go into. Skills learnt so far include being Internet safe and secure, a delve into networks and connectivity, and how data is communicated across computing platforms. Our T Level lecturer David won our staff innovation award last year, and we are so pleased he brings his innovation to this exciting new course, and we can’t wait to see what topics are looked at next term. Students such as Rosie chose this T Level as it gives them a greater chance of getting into a career of their choice, and we can’t wait to see the start of Computing work placements.

EDUCATION AND CHILDCARE (EARLY YEARS)

Students on our Education and Childcare course have been looking at making learning more exciting this term, so that in their future Early Years settings they know what to do to help the children achieve. Due to this, theory was taught in a different way a few weeks ago with the help of clay. Students were tasked to pick a theorist, and then make a clay model representing said theorist. This has also allowed our students to retain the information and link it back to practical activities. In Early Years we have lots of connections with local employers, and we have shown students the many different roles they could go into with this course, such as a Nursery Assistant or an Early Years practitioner.  Our T Level lecturer Karen has been really excited about this new way of learning and has helped students move to the T Level after realising their potential, such as current student Maddie.

From September 2023 our current students will move to the 2nd year of the T Level course, and we will have new students starting on Year 1. Could you be one of them? Come to our Open Day on November 17th between 4 – 7 and find out more about T Levels. We will even have more T Level courses available on some of our other pathways, so make sure you pre-register and don’t miss on this chance to take your learning to the nexT Level.
