Halloween 2022 at Ashford College

To celebrate the autumnal feeling of this time of year, we have done several things that have been sure to boost our student's Halloween spirit (and maybe even cause a few spooks)!

As part of our ongoing efforts to strengthen our involvement in the community, our Art and Design students have designed their own Ashford College scarecrow. Entitled the 'Ashford College Farmer', it was one of 23 scarecrows that took pride of place in Victoria Park as part of their Scarecrow Trail on October 23rd. Students were tasked to create a scarecrow that was linked to nature or people that work in nature, and this project went on for a few weeks, with the scarecrow hanging out in the art department before the trail. It has since returned from the trail, and is lounging about in the college grounds, so that our art students can be reminded of how they have worked so hard this early in the year!

Hair, Beauty and Barbering students have used skills learnt both in the classroom and on trips (such as Salon International) to create shocking and spooky Halloween inspired looks. On the last week of Term 1 before the half term break, students created looks based on original ideas and using films such as Dracula, The Nightmare before Christmas, Corpse Bride and Batman. There was a lot of black makeup involved and some crazy hairstyles!

After this, our Level 2 Hairdressing students have designed a board in college which will show other students and those who come on our November Open Day just what you can achieve in our salons.

On Halloween itself, we had activities throughout the day, and we even held an after-hours Halloween Movie Night for our students. The two movies picked were Candyman (2021) and The Autopsy of Jane Doe, after a vote by students on our Instagram page. There was an equal number of laughs and scares, and the students who attended had a really great time!

We wish you a very Happy Halloween!
