Our Freshers Fayre 2022 took place on Wednesday 14th September to fully welcome our new and returning students after their first week settling in to college. This was an event for students to be able to hang out, make new friends, and meet lots of companies and businesses from the local area and beyond. They also could enjoy games such as a penalty shootout challenge, an extra large buzzwire, and an opportunity for them to test their strength, which was a 'hit' with students and staff.
We had many companies join us this year including Nationwide Building Society, A-Class Driving School. Charlton Athletic Community Trust, Kooth plc, Freedom Leisure, Southeastern Railway, the NHS and many more. They spoke to students and gave advice and guidance about potential careers, as well as free merchandise and even some exclusive student offers. Canterbury Christ Church University and the University of Kent were also in attendance to help students think about their future and where they may like college to take them.
The special guest was singer Nicole O'Brien, who performed live music for our students before and during the Freshers Fayre. She sang her original songs (including her new single 'C'est La Vie'), as well as covers from artists such as Harry Styles and Billie Eilish. She was a great act to watch live and our students were really entertained.
Freshers Fayre also wouldn't be complete without free food. Our EKC Commercial team joined us as part of their free Refectory giveaway, where students could get free water bottles and other merchandise, as well as try food that they can buy in our Refectory in the year. This included chicken nuggets and sandwiches. There was also a spin to win game in which more merchandise could be won! Phat Pasty Co also joined us this year and gave away free samples of some of their delicious products, including traditional cornish pastys and sausage rolls, to vegan options.
Overall even though the rain stopped us from hosting outside, the Freshers Fayre was a great success, and we are really looking forward to the next college event. Why not watch our video below to see the Freshers Fayre in action?
