Employability Skills (16 - 18)

Our college teaches Employability skills to those students who are not ready for vocational study for reasons such as low grades, being unsure of what area to study or needing the confidence to enable progression.

Class sizes are small, and tutors work with students to develop their skills and confidence to progress.

What will I learn?

The course is designed to develop your employability skills at Level 1.

You will study a number of units, which will lead to a qualification upon completion of all the units. Your curriculum will also include other subjects such as current affairs and sport. Maths and English are a key focus of this program.

Units may include:

  • Career Planning
  • Searching for a job
  • Applying for a job
  • Digital Skills
  • Working safely
  • Customer service skills
  • Working in a team
  • Communication

In-house work experience will be arranged for students to build on their skills to enhance their CV.

How will I be assessed?

This qualification is unit-based, leading to the qualification at Level 1. The evidence required is portfolio-based and externally verified by the awarding body.

Maths and English will be exam-based.

What may it lead to?

Students on this course will be able to experience College life whilst building confidence and gaining the skills and qualifications required for their progression. They will also get involved in college wide social action projects and community weeks, as well as our events. This course typically leads to one of our 2 year vocational courses across any of our existing pathways.

What will I need to join this course?

There are no formal qualifications required, but there will be an interview and assessment process to ensure that you are suitable for this course.
