AAT Bookkeeping Award Level 1

This Level 1 qualification introduces the role of a bookkeeper and the underpinning knowledge to identify and carry out simple different bookkeeping activities, such as income and expenditure, profit and loss, and assets and liabilities. It also offers an introduction into the role, and the benefits and risks associated with bookkeeping software. There is no need for any prior accounting or bookkeeping knowledge. It provides a solid grounding for students before moving on to the Level 2 qualifications.

What will I learn?

The AAT Award in Bookkeeping offers students at Level 1 the opportunity to develop practical bookkeeping skills.

A student completing this qualification will develop an understanding of the role of the bookkeeper, learning underpinning theory including how to identify assets, liabilities, income and expenses; how to identify profit and loss; and the differences between trading for cash and trading on credit. Students will be introduced to the dual effect of transactions, which will support progression.

What may it lead to?

This qualification can offer a route into employment, support students in their existing work or help students to pursue further study with AAT (Award in Accounting Software and Foundation Certificate in Accounting).

How will I be assessed?

Students must pass one end-of-qualification assessment to achieve the qualification. This is an externally assessed qualification.
