STRATEGIC GOAL 1
To drive educational change with the communities we serve
To ensure our colleges are at the heart of their local community
By 2021, EKC Group will deliver local learning at each college which is fully responsive to local needs and priorities. Through each of its colleges, the Group will be integrated seamlessly into local economic development, as a major regional employer, working in close collaboration with civic partners, notably Canterbury City Council, Dover District Council, Kent County Council, Shepway District Council, Swale Borough Council and Thanet District Council. A range of high quality services will continue to be provided for the community, including hair and beauty salons, car maintenance, restaurants and The Yarrow Hotel in Broadstairs. In addition, nursery provision will be available at each college location to ensure local children have a happy, safe and successful start to their educational journey.
To lead dynamic development of skills education across East Kent
By 2021, EKC Group will have made targeted investment into priority sectors for employment within the East Kent Region including Catering and Hospitality; Construction and Building Services; Creative and Design; Engineering and Manufacturing, and Science, Health and Social Care. Through its coherent and forward-looking planning the Group will be addressing the South East Local Enterprise Partnership skills priorities, to future-proof skills development ahead of need. Clear learning pathways will be in place for students, from entry level to advanced and higher levels. Importantly, the Group will also be ensuring that first class Special Educational Needs (High Needs) provision is available, with supported employment programmes across East Kent.
Putting students first - responsive skills education
Our values in action...creativity and ambition. Ofsted confirmed that:
Teachers build skilfully and imaginatively on students’ prior knowledge, understanding and skills, so they grow in confidence and attainment.
As council leaders we recognise the crucial importance of education and skills for the economic and social prosperity of the communities we serve. We endorse the work of the EKC Group in delivering a new generation of skilled workers to maximise the employment opportunities for local people.
